Nancy Tran, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), M.A.

Nancy provides individual therapy to clients 15+ to help them become their best selves. She understands that life can sometimes be difficult and reaching out for the support of others can be the first step into clients’ wellness journeys. Entering therapy, at any point in life, can be very difficult, therefore, she enters each session with no judgments, compassion, empowerment, connectedness and a willingness to learn and listen. Nancy believes that all clients have the strengths to overcome their struggles, to reach their goals, to find acceptance, to increase personal insight and to move towards positive change. She is interested in working with clients who have anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD; mainly checking, counting, ordering, mental rituals, cleaning, perfectionism), trauma, life transitions, relational issues, sleeping issues and grief.

In Nancy’s practice, each of her clients deserves unique flexibility in their treatment so that they feel like therapy has been tailored specifically for them. She works from collaborative, client-centred and biopsychosocial evidenced-based frameworks. Some of the modalities that she works from include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and exposure therapy.

Nancy is passionate about helping others. She found her love in helping others at a young age. She has always been interested in volunteering within the community to give back. She has served many years in the Vietnamese community of Ottawa with children and adolescents and 5+ years at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre with the geriatric population. This commitment and experience with helping others has transferred into her career as a psychotherapist. Nancy is supervised by Riva Mylabathula, MC (Psych), RSW (OCSWSSW #819981), and Julia Maiorino, Registered Psychotherapist (youth).

Nancy received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA) from the University of Ottawa and her Master of Arts in Counselling (MACP) from Yorkville University. Nancy is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), in good standing, and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
